The Deep Exploration Research Vessel Capsaa was out there in the Deep searching for planets that could be colonised, or preferably, set up as a mining colony for its Galactic Corporation owners, that was where the coin was.
The crew got paid a discovery bonus for every planet where a profit could be turned, but this DERV crew were always disappointed with what they had managed to find so far , the bonuses were weak.
It seemed typical that they weren't having much luck in their quest.
In an effort to find that proper pay-day discovery, they changed tack and moved on to pastures new, now, they were just off the cosmic equatorial plane where things unexpectedly changed, their luck had taken yet another turn, sadly, it wasn’t for the better.
Now they were left fighting for survival in a ship that was more than a little broken, and with crew left abandoned to the Darkness in the Deep, they were ejected from a Warp tunnel, the ship and crew flying blind and unable to determine where they were, tumbling through space, wondering what, and who, they were going to run into, the crew further convinced that there was a curse upon the ship.
The ship wasn’t the only thing lost in this darkness, the crew were lost too, both figuratively and spiritually, and it didn't seem possible that there could be worse to come but they were starting to believe that this was the only option left for them.
